El proyecto Rostros presidenciales surge de la serie en proceso Síndrome de Proteus, iniciada a finales de 2015. En esta investigación examino cómo grandes personalidades de la historia y el presente coinciden de forma casi mimética en sus posturas y expresiones ante la cámara fotográfica, independientemente de la época, el contexto geográfico o sus posturas ideológicas. Se trata de individuos erigidos en figuras icónicas dentro del imaginario colectivo local, regional y universal. A partir de una mirada crítica, la obra emplea el collage como recurso postfotográfico utilizando imágenes de archivo para construir fisonomías inéditas. Mediante el principio del origami, doblo y superpongo las fotografías de estos personajes, corrompiendo las fisonomías originales para generar rostros irreconocibles y desconocidos, pero factibles: expresiones psicológicas que trascienden la individualidad de las partes. El título de la serie alude tanto al Síndrome de Proteus —patología congénita caracterizada por la deformación paulatina del organismo— como al dios griego Proteo, quien mutaba y asumía múltiples formas para evitar ser descubierto.
Bajo esta premisa, Rostros presidenciales traza un recorrido cronológico por la iconografía fotográfica gubernamental de diferentes naciones, habiendo comenzado con Estados Unidos (2022-In progress) y Francia (2023-In progress), para continuar con España, Inglaterra, Rusia y China. Mediante el collage fotográfico, combino de forma secuencial a los mandatarios de cada país: el presidente número uno con el número dos, el dos con el tres, y así sucesivamente hasta el presente. La última pieza exhibe siempre la mitad del rostro del gobernante actual, en un estado de latencia a la espera de ser completado por su sucesor. Así, cada nuevo mandato incorpora un retrato híbrido compuesto por el líder saliente y el electo. Este proyecto se mantendrá activo durante toda mi vida; en caso de ser adquirido por alguna colección, institución o museo, se adjuntará un acta notarial que certifique mi compromiso legal de incorporar nuevas piezas a la obra a lo largo de toda mi trayectoria creativa.

The project Rostros presidenciales (Presidential Faces) stems from the ongoing series Síndrome de Proteus (Proteus Syndrome), initiated in late 2015. In this research, I examine how major figures of the past and present coincide almost mimetically in their poses and expressions before the camera, regardless of era, geographical location, or political and ideological stances. These individuals have become iconic figures within the local, regional, and universal collective imaginary. From a critical standpoint, the work utilizes collage as a post-photographic resource, drawing from archival images of these historical icons to construct brand-new countenances. Employing the principles of origami, I fold and layer the photographs of these figures, corrupting the original features to generate unrecognizable, unknown, yet plausible faces: psychological expressions that transcend the individuality of their parts. The title references both Proteus Syndrome—a congenital pathology characterized by the gradual deformation of the body—and the Greek god Proteus, who mutated and assumed multiple forms to avoid detection.
Under this premise, Rostros presidenciales maps a chronological journey through the official presidential photography of different nations, beginning with the United States (2022-In progress) and France (2023-In progress), and continuing with Spain, England, Russia, and China. Through photographic collage, the leaders of each country are paired sequentially: president number one with number two, number two with number three, and so on until reaching the contemporary era. The final piece always displays half of the current president's face, suspended in waiting to be combined with their successor. Thus, with every new presidential term, a new portrait composed of the outgoing and incoming leaders will be added. This project will remain in process throughout my lifetime; should it be acquired by a collection, institution, or museum, a notarized deed will be appended to certify my legal commitment to add new pieces to the work for the duration of my creative career.
